What To Wear On Thanksgiving

Posted on November 25, 2014 by Hennin Headwear | 0 Comments

Holidays can be stressful, but putting together an outfit shouldn't be. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I am sure you are starting to day dream about the perfect outfit. Here are some of our tips on what to wear on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving with the boyfriend's family:

Number one rule when spending the holidays with your boyfriend's family and that is dress appropriately. Especially if you are in a new relationship. First impressions are so important, and you do not want to be judged based on your attire. Thanksgiving is all about stuffing your face so we always go with an outfit that has some sort of stretchy aspect to it whether its tights or leggings. Pair a long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve dress with a pair of tights and booties or chunky heels for a classy and comfortable look. We love a fun flirty pattern to spice up the party!

Thanksgiving with your family:

Number one rule when spending the holidays with your own family and that is dress for yourself. Wear something that makes you smile and catches your eye every time you pass the hallway mirror. This year we are going to wear skinny jeans and an over sized blanket style cardigan. We want to step up the cuteness and spend as little time as possible on our hair so we are wearing a basic black fedora.

How to Wear a Big Floppy Hat in the Fall

Posted on November 09, 2014 by Hennin Headwear | 0 Comments

Floppy hats come in wide range of fabrics and sizes, and can be worn all year round. This fall we have curated our favorite wool felt floppy hats from Lovely Bird. Many people struggle with wearing this style hat in the fall, but it is totally appropriate, therefore we wanted to break down our do's and don'ts for wearing a big floppy hat in the fall.

Do's

  1. Commit to a fall inspired look from head to toe
  2. Wear color
  3. Wear your in a low hairstyle. (Check out our picks for top 3 hairstyles in a hat)
  4. Wear wool felt or suede

 Dont's

  1. Stay away from straw or paper hats
  2. Don't try to match. We always think you should be thoughtful with your color and pattern choices, but we can't stand when people match their bag to their shoes to their shirt. A hat should be a unique accessory that stands on it's own.

So go for it and buy yourself that wool felt big floppy hat you have been eyeing. This style hat can carry you through the winter, and will be something you have for years to come.

3 Ways to Wear Your Hair in a Hat

Posted on November 07, 2014 by Hennin Headwear | 0 Comments

We love wearing hats, obviously, but getting your hair to look just right while rocking one can be a daunting task. We decided to share our top 3 hairstyles for ultimate hat wearing perfection. There are many hats that you can wear such as fedoras, boleros, snapbacks, beanies, and floppy hats therefore we picked the most versatile hairstyles that look great with any style.

1. Beach Waves / Loose Curls

This is our favorite way to wear our hair for sure. If you have pin straight hair like we do then this can be achieved by using a curling wand or curling iron. We like to air dry our hair and spray it with dry shampoo to give it a bit of texture. Separate your hair into sections, we like to use bigger sections for a loose and full body curl. Wrap your hair around the wand or curing iron holding the ends, and curling away from your face. We recommend wrapping your hair around the entire barrel, and not just the center. Wait around 3 seconds, and release. After we have curled our entire head we like to flip our hair over and run our fingers through very delicately for a fresh beach look, put on your hat and voila!

2. Low Messy Bun

This is such an easy hairstyle to wear with any hat. We especially love this style with a snapback or beanie. We like the way our hair looks in a messy bun when we have gone a day or 2 without washing. First we put our hair into a low pony tail at the base of our head and separate the pony into 3 sections, and begin to back tease each section of hair for volume with a bristle brush. We then pin pieces using bobby pins in opposite directions around the pony tail , and leave the ends loose for a natural look.

3. Braid / Fishtail Braid

This is the ultimate boho babe hairstyle and looks amazing with any hat. Fishtail braids seem intimidating and hard to achieve but once you master it you wont want to wear your hair any other way. We like to put our hair in a low pony tail slightly to the side and separate into 2 sections. You literally weave the hair back and forth grabbing smaller sections from the outside. A traditional braid will work as well but make sure that you make it as loose as possible.

Choosing any of these 3 hairstyles will ensure that your look is truly complete. No matter what hat you feel like wearing for the day make sure to always wear a smile!

How to Wear Snapback Hats

Posted on October 29, 2014 by Hennin Headwear | 0 Comments

Snapback caps have been a part of fashion since the 90's popularized by the Fresh Prince and hip hop music. Most recently we have seen a resurgence of these hats, but with a modern twist. People are no longer wearing logos of their favorite basketball or baseball team, but are now wearing them with eye catching sayings and messages.

Now that snapbacks are back in style you are probably wondering what is the best way to wear this type of hat. It is easy to rock this flat brim hat and that is what we love most about this style. Snapbacks have an urban feel and look best when you are in casual mode. We suggest wearing a plain tee, denim or flannel shirt, thermal top, or sweatshirt when sporting this hat.

Our snapbacks are offered in bright vibrant colors, and the messages are loud as well so we recommend sticking to a muted color pallet when choosing your outfit. Pick a message that speaks to you and makes you happy. We think that a message can start a conversation, elicit a smile from a stranger, or just cause you to stop and wink at yourself every time you pass a mirror!

Rihanna does it right in a denim shirt and statement snapback.

Choose a snapback that is fun, flirty, and can maximize your casual look.

Nicole Richie sports a snapback with a sweatshirt and shorts for a casual stylish look.

How to Care For Your Hat

Posted on October 12, 2014 by Hennin Headwear | 0 Comments

So you just purchased a hat and you have been wearing it everyday of the week (as you should because it looks damn cute on you), and you are wondering how in the world you are supposed to keep this hat clean? Well you are in luck because we have some tips on how to care for your hat and keep it for years to come.

The majority of the hats we offer are 100% wool felt which is a fabric that is durable and made to last, but must be cared for properly. Everyday care is something you need to consider like where you are storing your hat and how you are handling it. Hats should be stored in a box or on a hanger or hook to maintain the shape. We like to stuff the crown with tissue paper and store the hat upside down so the brim does not warp. You should never pick up a hat by the crown because overtime this can cause the hat to bend or even crack and this will also help to maintain the shape of the hat.

In order to keep your new hat clean you should purchase a hat brush (we picked one up on Amazon for $8.99). The bristles on a hat brush are usually made of horse hair which is abrasive enough to remove dirt and lint but soft enough to not cause any rips or tears in the felt. You want to make sure that you are brushing in short directional strokes. We also recommend to use a lint brush to remove dust or particles left behind by the brush. To remove stains you can dampen a cloth and wipe the hat don't rub or over saturate the hat. This procedure will work for any wool hat whether it is a floppy, bolero, or a fedora. For tough set in stains we recommend consulting a professional.

We know that our hats are not cheap, therefore care and storage are so important to maintain the integrity. So enjoy your purchase girl, and go ahead wear that hat every damn day!

What Is Bohemian Style

Posted on October 06, 2014 by Hennin Headwear | 0 Comments

A lot of you probably hear the term "bohemian" or "boho chic" when people describe their own personal style, and this may leave you scratching your head and wondering WTF? So we thought we would dedicate a blog post to this oh so popular fashion genre to help you better understand what the hell "boho chic" really means.

First let us start off by explaining that bohemian style is more than the choices we make when perusing through our overly packed closets, rather it encompasses the lifestyle we live. Boho babes are free spirits and reside somewhere in between dreams. To be a true bohemian you must love the sun on your back, the wind in your hair, and the smell of something sweet in the distance.

Bohemian style is about expressing that lifestyle through our fashion choices. A few of the stand out boho chic eccentricities are layering, mixing fabrics and patterns, accessories, beach hair, and natural make up. Boho babes are all about attention to detail and although their outfits look "thrown together" with ease they actually require a lot of thought. Bohemian's don't try to be matchy matchy and they live outside of those old school Anna Wintour rules of not wearing white after labor day or mixing brown with black.

So next time you are getting dressed and you are looking to achieve that boho chic style stock pile your rings on every finger, wear bangles up to your elbow, throw on your favorite tank, a kimono, a fur vest, and a leather jacket, and don't forget to smile because style is not something you can find in your closet it comes from self confidence within!
