Are you tired of spending your money on the latest "must have" top or bag, and then 5 months later discovering that it went out of style last Tuesday? We urge you to stop shopping at Forever 21, and to stop buying that peplum top from BeBe because you saw it in this month's issue of Lucky magazine. It's important that the 30 something you has a classic wardrobe, and the way to ensure that you have one is to start putting your money into pieces that will carry you through the years.
Don't get us wrong we love a good trend, but when it comes to really going hard on a spree the days of filling a black mesh bag with a 100 shirts and jeans are far behind us, instead we like to invest in well constructed clothing that's made to last. Start building your wardrobe with the following 5 essentials:
A Classic White Tee:
A Hand Bag:
A High Heel Shoe:
Fitted Straight Leg Trousers:
If you live on the east coast then you are feeling tortured and teased by spring, but the reality is that spring is right around the corner, and it's time to revamp your wardrobe. One of our favorite spring trends this year are sneakers and lots of sneakers. Sneakers look super cute with leggings, skinny jeans, shorts, mini skirts, and dresses. We love to travel and sightsee for 10-12 hours a day, so we are extremely excited that sneakers are on trend for spring 2015.
Adidas Stan Smith Shoes: These are all the rage right now and can be seen on the hottest celebrities and bloggers. These retro sneakers look so fresh and so clean clean. Consider yourself lucky if you are able to get your hands on these. Our advice is to get them from the men's section and go 2 sizes smaller than your regular size.
Nike Air Huarache: We weren't so sure how we felt about these until we saw them on Sincerely Jules, our blogger icon, rocking these in Paris. (Check out our previous blog post highlighting fashion blogs we read religiously) These are statement shoes for sure, and come in a wide variety of colors. You can even customize a pair on the Nike website. We love the bright blue color that Jules wears.
Superga High Tops: We snagged a pair of these back in January while walking the floor at Lord & Taylor. Superga's are so comfy and these high top sneakers look perfect with a dress, skirt, or jeans. We love the double zipper detail and distressed sole. We opted for the black and white combo, but this sneaker comes in all black everything and all white.
New Balance 620: Um yes please! We will take every color and every combination of these. These sneakers offer the perfect pop for spring, and are an extremely practical choice. Prices for this style range from $60-$80 depending on where you get them from. J Crew stocks their own exclusive color combinations, but hurry because they are selling out fast.
Nike High Tops: These are such a throw back to the 90's and we love a good retro shoe. The neutral colored combo is beautiful, and comes with a snakeskin texture. This spring is all about the neutrals and white on white so get your wardrobe in order, and cop yourself a pair of these.
We love a good black ripped skinny jean, and we are all over this trend for the spring. A good pair of black skinny jeans can take any outfit to the next level. Every woman should own a pair of distressed jeans, and we have found a pair for everyone no matter what your body shape is. Here are our must have picks all under $75.
Are you a fashionista dying to wear a hat, but scared to pull the trigger because of your big head? Well stress no more because we've got you covered. One of the most common reasons why people don't wear hats is because they fear their head is just too big, but perhaps you aren't choosing the right brand or style hat to flatter your dome piece.
For big heads we recommend a non-structured hat, and by non-structured we mean a hat that does not have a reinforced shape or rigid feel. Wool felt is the best material to go with and can be manipulated and folded without being damaged due to it's soft hand feel. Lovely Bird hats are specifically made for big heads, and are flexible allowing the hat to form to the head perfectly.
In addition to a non-structured style hat, big headed babes should look to wear fedoras and not floppy hats. Floppy hats can look overbearing on a big head, and fedoras will be sure to make you look purposeful and fashion forward. A shorter brim will also be more flattering on your large cranium.
Hats look good on everyone, trust us. We know that big headed girls need love too, and that is why we curate brands for all head sizes.
We decided to launch a new segment on our blog called "In With the Old" where we share tips and ideas on how to reuse and revamp old garbs. If your closet is overflowing with clothes, and you claim you have nothing to wear, then consider this segment your savior!
In this weeks edition of "In With the Old" we share a tip on how to take an old hat and make it new again. We are hat enthusiasts, obviously, and our collection grows by double digits every year. Our hats have stories to tell, and have been around the world with us therefore it is always so hard to part with any. Since we do not want to throw these hats away we came up with a way to make them unique and new again.
First we purchased a flower crown. Personally we are obsessed with Flower Gypsies crowns because they are handmade and come in beautiful colors, sizes, and prices range from $30-$45. We placed the flower crown around the base of the hat and tied it around tightly, and VOILA we had a totally new hat!
So if you have a stockpile of hats that are unworn and unloved, try this inexpensive tip to revive your collection.
Travel more..that was our new years resolution, and we are sticking to it! With some big plans on the horizon we have been on the hunt for a new carry on bag. Our budget keeps changing because we will save up money for a carry on, but then a new pair of boots catches our eye, or there is a sale at Bloomingdales! So through our epic search we narrowed it down to 5 bags that we think any fashionista would love no matter what your cash situation may be.
1. Reversible Vegan Leather Tote
We found this style at Nordstroms and Urban Outfitters and at only $48.00 it is a steal. It comes in a wide variety of colors like black, blush, plum, brown, grey, etc. The best part is that the inside and outside are different colors and it is reversible, so essentially you get 2 looks in one! We love the soft leather and the magnet closure. It makes for the ideal carry on because you can get in and out of it with ease. There is a bonus bag inside to store your passport and phone!
2. Printed Backpack
So essentially any backpack would be an ideal carry on bag, but we just fell in love with this printed bag from Free People. We are obsessed with the leather and textile mix along with the endless amounts of pockets and closures. It would definitely fit our magazines, camera, extra pair of shoes, snacks, and all of our other travel essentials. At $198 it is an investment, but you can't put a price on handmade and leather!
3. Leather Satchel
Madewell does it again with the Glasgow Satchel. It is the perfect weekender that can fit all of the things you can't leave home without. It comes in 4 colors and has a shoulder strap as well as sturdy handles. It can double as a purse which we love. At $198 it was at the top end of our budget, but it is worth every penny. You will definitely have this bag for a very long time, because it is made to last.
4. Catalina Canvas Bag
We found this canvas bag at Lo & Sons and fell in love. The extra compartment at the bottom is awesome, and we have already started to think of things to put in there like our shoes, hair dryer, or hat. The size is just right, and the canvas material makes it durable and sturdy. At $120 it is such a steal. It is machine washable and can easily store when you are not using it.
5. Printed Convertible Weekender
Okay so before we blow your mind take a look at the gorgeous pattern on this bag. We found this weekender at Kohls for a serious bargain price of $34.99. The floral pattern is so on point and comes in a light pink or baby blue. The straps are a blend of faux leather and canvas, and they are adjustable making the bag versatile and perfect for long trips. We want this bag in both colors because at $34.99 you can not go wrong.
There you have it, our picks for the best carry on bags no matter what your budget is. We love all of these and would buy them all if we didn't just blow our savings on 3 new Janessa Leone fedoras. If you aren't quite sure what to pack in one of these beauties check out our picks for the top 5 items you must have in your suitcase.
So you are off to Europe for a week or 2 and you just can't seem to figure out what to pack. We always think it is best to plan out your outfits before you go, and try and bring versatile pieces that can cross over from one day or event to the next.
There are obviously many factors that contribute to deciding what to pack like weather, destination, season, time frame, etc, therefore we decided to be as generic as possible and highlight some of the items we never travel without no matter where or when we are going.Converse are amazing and so versatile. You can pair them with dresses, skirts, jeans, and shorts. We love the high and low top Chuck Taylors, and because they are so different we make sure to have room in our suitcase for both. One of our favorite bloggers Sincerely Jules rocks these shoes on the regular.
You must pack a LBD that can go from day to night. Zara, Aritzia, and TopShop are our go to stores to find that perfect little black dress. We like to stick with breathable easy to wear fabrics like cotton or modal that can transition us from sight seeing to an alfresco dinner. Let's be honest this also takes up minimal space in our suitcase which means extra room to bring something new back! Listen closely if you do not own a jean jacket then you must invest in one now! We chose to go with a medium wash because we felt it could be considered dressier than a light wash, and it also hides dirt and grime easier. Let's face it we are not doing much laundry while jet setting. Nordstrom is a great place for a jean jacket as they have a wide variety of styles and price points.
A statement necklace is our pick for the #5 must have item in your suitcase. This will spice up that LBD and add a special touch to your look. We are obsessed with child of wild necklaces, and will not travel anywhere without one. These necklaces scream bohemian, and you are sure to get compliments in any language!
